9 Volt Battery Explosion

I just wanted to draw you to my earlier post about 9 volt battery explosions as this happened to me yesterday, on my birthday.  So very lucky things could have been really bad.

I opened my TENS machine box that keeps everything neatly together to find 2 x 9volt rectangular batteries with their cases completely melted and all of the inside junk spilt everywhere.

I had absolutely no idea that they can cause fires and (and it seems all batteries not kept in packaging) These 2 batteries I kept lose in the case and came in contact with the wire that the electrode plugs into.  Thank Goodness it didn’t do anything to my TENS machine too.  But fires do happen and if your house is like mine, spare batteries live in the 4th drawer of the kitchen with a million little other things…including metal objects, paperclips, scissors etc.  Please take warning and hopefully save yourself from a nasty accident.

With so many house fires on the news (almost every night) I always wonder WHAT had caused the accident – they never re-visit the story and give you this information.  With all the information about “Not licking softdrink cans” or “Refilling one use water bottles” it seems I haven’t spoken to anyone yet that knew that this could happen.  I would really like the news to pick up this story and make people aware.
